Meet Our Attorneys
Nellie Kaufman
Nellie joined the firm of Klaas, Law, O'Meara & Malkin, P.C. (formerly Klaas & Law) in 1985, and achieved shareholder status in 2000. She has been licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 1991. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1992 from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver in 1995. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado.
The technology areas in which Nellie has performed patent work involve various mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and methods such as, for example, mass storage systems, robotic devices, optics, computer components, computer peripherals including navigation devices as well as scanners and printers, digital cameras, circuit fabrication, and high speed beverage bottling and canning systems. She also utilizes a computer aided drafting program to prepare the formal drawings that accompany patent applications, including applications she writes as well as those prepared by other attorneys. She is currently interested in expanding her areas of expertise into the biomedical field. Toward this goal, she is currently working toward earning a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Colorado State University.
Outside the office, Nellie enjoys attending sporting events, both professional and those her children are involved in. She is also an avid do-it-yourself home renovator as well as her family's maintenance engineer for anything that needs repair, including computers, computer peripherals, small machinery, and the like.
